Journaling for the soul: How writing helped me explore my soul on a deeper level

At the age of 18, I unconsciously tapped into my spirit again. The gateway which led me to this union was through a journal. In this journal I professed to my guides my painful heartbreak, confusing freshman year experiences, and what it felt like to move away from my childhood friends. Without realizing it I was clearing my energy, holding space for my pain so I could make room for more light in my body. Before I was completely aware of its healing power, I had already filled about 3 journals to the brim. Each dedicated to a different purpose or person where I released my thoughts, fears, and in between my dreams.

When I began to truly “wake up” at the age of 19, I formally invited my guides in to experience my writing process with me. Each year the journals held less pain and more beauty, even the words I wrote with tear stains on them hold some of my proudest moments in writing. Looking back on some of my older journals I recognize the commitment my young self gave to filling the empty spaces with pure love. Beautiful documents I can keep forever of my shadow work.

My reasons for journaling have organically transformed over the years, from finding comfort to now exploring myself and my gifts. It’s always been important to me that the journal's purpose aligns with its aesthetic, where the words can match the cover. The intention for each of my journals is stated on the first crisp page along with a date and my signature. I’ve never thrown away a journal even when some of the words feel written by a stranger, someone who I used to be in a different dimension you could say. I keep them as a reminder of the path I've taken, and proof of my potential. I’ve never taken journal prompts from someone else to begin my writing, and I’ve honored my freedom to choose to write when I only felt called to, not because I had to.

Now at the age of 23, and a few days away from 24 I’ve developed my own journaling practice I’m proud to call my own. I encourage you to do the same. Hold space for your soul to speak and cry, document your journey especially the hard parts, and put your dreams into physical words on every page you need until they come to life. Weave practices you know and love or document your first steps of exploring a new method of connection. I’m now at a place in my spiritual journey to know what practices I need to clear my energetic field. I honor my energy, therefore journaling has become a non negotiable daily practice, as well as reading tarot for myself, and meditation.

I hope you can sense the power of journaling from this post. If you feel the call to explore what journaling can do for your soul's expansion, remember to lead with your own guidance according to YOU and no one else. This is YOUR practice, your sacred gift to yourself. Feel free to let me know what you find along the way.

I honor you and your light,
