Giving reverence and respect to the land, the importance of consent with ceremonies.

Giving reverence and respect to the land, the importance of consent with ceremonies.

If you're on a soul path, sharing your medicine, holding ceremonies, and you choose to interact with the nature spirits and land which hold the grounds for the magick you wish to create, then this post is for you.

If you’re not on a soul path, and live or work on native land this post is also for you.

Land holds energy, it holds history, memories, stories, and spirits which frequent the land. It is a sentient entity, which you can also easily piss off if you're not wise to respecting its space.

"Close your eyes, tune in to the land and its energy, ask aloud or within, “MAY I ENTER?”

You have a calling or an idea to search for the perfect space to hold your full moon ritual, group circle, or even a wedding. What does it mean to ask for consent from the land to hold your ceremony?

It means you don’t only feel good about creating your magick there, but the land and its spirits WELCOME and also feel good about this choice as well.

How do you tell or go about asking this request? - which may I explain, won’t always be a yes especially if you are good at discerning your ego from your soul.

This is the process I follow…

1.Once you feel where you might feel called or interested in going, on your journey there begin to already notice any signs, symbols, or messages you receive about this voyage. What is the attitude of the elements and weather? If you are on native land that is not your own, keep in mind the type of people or tribes who lived here, what happened to them? Will your ceremony give or take away from the energy left over from this site? And what type of energy would you be giving if so?

2. Once you arrive at the site, find the “THRESHOLD.” The threshold is like the front door of the land's home. Sometimes it physically can look like a door, arch, by the natural elements. This frequently begins at the head of a trail for example, between two trees, ect.

3. Close your eyes, tune in to the land and its energy, ask aloud or within, “MAY I ENTER?”

4. If the answer is no, let it be a no. Maybe it is a no for now, or there is another requirement asked by the land before entering. If it is a yes, give your gratitude and make sure you have an offering with you before entering.

5. Walk with reverence, honoring the land, animals, elements, and spirits as you enter. Do not get distracted, and continue with the intention you had for your ceremony without going off course or losing sight of your original intent.

6. Once you make it to the spot either you, or the land continues to welcome you to hold your ceremony, give your offering, blessing, or prayer to the land.

7. During your ceremony you may notice the energy shift, pay attention as sometimes the land will let you know when it's time to leave, and your time is done. If this is so, do not overstay your welcome. If you notice an energy shift, but it feels nourishing to the space you may finish your ceremony.

8. When it’s time to pack up, leave no trace. Close your ceremony or circle, and head back out through the threshold. Before exiting the threshold, make sure you take ALL of your soul, body, mind, and spirit with you as you leave. Being grounded and present is important for this step.

Some non surprising things that may occur if we don’t pay respect to the land, and continue to take from her energy.

For the individual who chooses this,

Karmic debts will need to be paid, energy you leave with after or during your ceremony may be the complete opposite of your intention, carrying negative entities, spirits, or energy with you when you go may become harder to clear, your event or ceremony having weather with unkind conditions.

For the land and residing ancestors,

perpetual healing for both the land and ancestors, become more unwelcoming to healers or lightworkers with actual clear intentions, more difficult for ancestors or residing spirits to cross over, and the land itself becoming malnourished such as dead trees, grass, and infertile soil.

It’s important to speak up and share this because the land does speak for itself, but not everyone can hear it or is listening. So I encourage you to use this information but also to pass it forward and be an example for others who wish to share their healing medicine on the land. Intention is everything and so checking our egos will continue to keep that intention pure while on your path.

I have and will always continue this practice when holding sacred ceremonies and especially on sacred sites, however this easily transitions in the muggle world for any type of event, occasion, or gathering. Possibly even the most important time to be reminded of this truth is when we don’t have a cloak or medicine bag with us as a reminder for why we are here.

Just last week, my Fiancé and I felt it was time to start looking for a wedding venue for our nordic ceremony in the fall 2024. Even as I was just looking at the photos of some of the spaces, the land already began to speak to me.

We saw two venues that Saturday, the first was a very sweet, beautiful view of a sparkling lake, and hit most of our checklist besides a few things. I felt welcomed onto the property, so I found a tree which acted as the land liaison. I could not feel or fully see the vision of our friends and family being here even though the energy was pretty welcoming and mind. The land let me know they would love to hold the ceremony, but it is not them who will be holding it. We left right after I received this message as the winds really kicked up - I paid close attention to this.

The second venue was equally beautiful, and hit a little bit more on our checklist than the other, I felt open and optimistic while there. The winds completely died, the sun shined bright, we felt welcomed on the land so we roamed the property. The land was exciting, childlike, animals were alive, well, and wild - very good signs. I turned into my inner vision and could really see the gathering of our friends and loved ones, it matched a lot of dreams I was already having about this day. We left when we felt complete, I gave an offering to the land and animals in the spot I felt the warm energy the most potently.

We are still open to looking around for a few more weeks, but my encounter with that space was very special and will definitely keep the spirit in mind as we make our final decision.
